Patient-led ordering (PLO)
Posted or Updated on 8 May 2026
We regret we are unable to take any requests for repeat prescriptions over the telephone
As of 1st April 2026 pharmacies are no longer allowed to order medications on a patients behalf. Patient-led ordering (PLO) for prescriptions is being implemented across Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas including through the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and GP surgeries. The new policy requires patients to order their `own` medications directly from their GP practice rather than relying on their pharmacy to place the order. The deadline has been extended to 1st June 2026. After this date patients must order via one of the following ways:
- NHS app - click on this link for the NHS app We are actively encouraging all patients to download this app. You can order your medications, see test results and also view your medical record
- Patient access - Click on this link patient access this is a similar portal to the above. Ask at reception for further details
- In-person - Hand in the right hand side of your prescription via reception or the prescription box located by the front door
- by post - you can mail your repeat slip to the surgery
- Proxy access - by agreeing for a family member to have proxy access to enable them to order on your behalf. (This is strictly for medications only, no access to your medical record) ask reception for more information.
The new policy was introduced to:
- reduce wasted medication.
- Improve safety and avoid over-ordering/stockpiling.
- Give patients more control over their prescriptions.
If you are on regular medications, your Doctor may issue you with a repeat prescription. This will be reviewed annually.
Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed
